Lewin's mighty Porsche 996 GT2 had qualified on pole and won the race by 12 seconds from the Hindley/Shrimpton Porsche 996 GT3 pairing.
Steve and Stuart didn't disgrace themselves and qualified their newley painted Porsche 944 in 14th place ahead of some more powerful equipment including a 944 Turbo and a 944 S2.
"Our car was the oldest on the grid and should
have been the slowest so it was good to end up on the grid in front
of some cars that should have been a lot quicker", said the delighted
Steve.
Stuart was thrilled that qualifying had been trouble free and couldn't
remember the last time they didn't have to start a race without some
sort of a drama with the car.
It was elected, by Stuart, that Steve would start the race and by the first corner he had already made up four places as there were cars and drivers out there that didn't like cold tyres. Once the race settled down they ended up running where they qualified. It was a great shame that we didn't have any other cars in our class to play with.
After 35 minutes Steve passed the driving duties over to Stuart and a year in the British Gt's showed in their driver change. An official remarked that their driver change was the quickest and most professional he had seen all afternoon and put some of the other teams in their place.
Stuart stayed out of trouble and maintained the same track position that Steve had given him and they finished 13th overall and first in their class.
"It was a great shame we didn't have any cars with us in our class but we proved that we can run with cars above us and we were delighted to have a trouble free weekend", remarked both Steve and Stuart. "For the first time in a long time we were both able to just concentrate on our racing and not have to worry about mechanical issues. We both had smiles from ear to ear and will be back next year in the Bill Taylor and after a 2nd and 3rd place in previous years we will be back to win and maybe in something a little quicker and modern."
