Steve and Stuart took part in their second GT race at Silverstone but a blown turbo stopped their race after only a few laps.
"It was a bitter disappointment to only run for 8 laps when this race was for three hours and we could have done so well"
The Golf had qualified 8th in class which was lower than in Scotland. The longer straights of the Grand Prix circuit suited the Porsches and Morgans and as there were more of them out this weekend, the GTC class swelled to 10 cars.
This lowly position did not deter Steve who proceeded to overtake cars on nearly every lap. He started the race with the Clio managing to get past him on the line but the two of them overtook a GTO class Porsche and the Marcos whilst trading places for a lap, but soon the Clio was being left behind, as Steve went after the Morgan of Wells and Ahlers. Once one Morgan had been despatched it was not long before the other one of Cunningham, Robinson and Taylor was also left behind. They were to eventually finish second.
The last scalp was the Ferrari 360 (that finished the race in third place) before smoke was seen. Steve drove slowly back to the pits where it was confirmed that the turbo had blown.
This has shown that the car needs more straight line power and a bigger turbo is already on order. All the modifications will hopefully be in place for the next round at Castle Combe on the 22nd/23rd June.
