The weekend was a mixture of scary moments with
frustration. The story of race 1's start is best told by Stuart.
“I’d actually made some progress from the start
but as we came through Becketts and onto the Hangar Straight
the Diablo spun right in front of me, went off onto the grass
on the right, but then came back across the track towards
me. I went left to avoid it but ended up with my left hand

to Vale. I reckon it was my corner but at the turn in point
the Tech 9 Porsche just thumped me and turned me around, a
bit out of order really.”
Steve rejoined but worse was to come, an ill-handled
safety car period, called as a result of the Lamborghini spilling
its oil all around the circuit.
“I was towards the front of the train behind
the safety car and realised that the cars were stacking up
behind, but that he hadn’t picked up the leader. I got on
the radio and asked the guys to get them to let us by but
by the time they did the safety car was ready to come in and
we’d lost almost a full lap.” Then came the choice of wets
or slicks... click
