Wood-Scott racing unveiled their striking
new livery at the British GT Launch on Wednesday, and the
stunning blue and gold scheme is a radical departure in terms
of finishing and decoration. “We chose xtremegraphics,” said
Steve Wood, “because I liked what they did on the Racers Group
Porsche at Le Mans a few years ago.
The finish is a complete vinyl wrap,
with no paint other than the white undercoat.” Giles Puleston,
Business Development Manager of Silverstone-based xtremegraphics,
explained the process; “Normally, a livery and design has
to be sponsor-sensitive, but with just Stuart’s own company
as main sponsor, we were given a free rein, and flexibility
to create tones. There is so much more that you can do with
vinyl that you can’t do with paint.”
In fact, some minor enhancements were
being completed by xtremegraphics staff during the morning
of the launch, suggested by the team’s long term follower
Les.
So, why a new livery then? “When we
ran in black, we were perceived to be the junior team of JWR,
the second tier, and we were anxious to shake off that image
and have our own identity,” said Steve Wood.
And it’s not just the
colour scheme that’s changed – the brakes have been upgraded
with a Brembo kit, and the dampers, previously non-adjustable
and a performance inhibitor, have been replaced by Moton units,
as fitted to the Jordan / Caine and Jones twins cars.
Expectations are being raised for
this season, after three fifth places were the best results
in 2004.

“We must do better this year,” said
Stuart Scott, “and aim for the podium at least. I’ve been
having some tuition with Rob Barff, and, since Mike Jordan
has been rallying, he’s realised the importance of enhancing
our driving skills, so both Steve and myself have had a session
at the Bill Gwynne Rally School. ”
A new identity, renewed confidence,
and an improved car.
