British GT Golf And V8 Star Jaguar For Sale

dailysportscar has followed more or less every move that Wood Scott Racing has made since 2003 - from the entry into the British GT Championship in the now legendary Gulf Air Golf GTI Turbo, through the adventures with a Porsche 911 GT3, and into 2006 with the immaculate Jaguar bodied V8Star.

With the Britcar V8 series not matching expectations in its first year, Stuart Scott has begun to look for a new challenge, and as they say all good things……………..

The Golf and the Jaguar are therefore up for sale to fund the next stage on the motorsport adventure.

The mercurial VW Golf was perhaps the most unusual addition ever to the British GT grid. GT purists claimed that the “Yellow Peril’ had no place in the Championship but Stuart Scott and his long time driving partner Steve Wood built up a substantial fan base behind the VW, a car which got faster and faster with more power and then a sequential ‘box.

Strong runs and podium near misses featured throughout the season with perhaps the most bizarre sight being the Golf amongst the British GT Championship contenders at Spa-Francorchamps, when the field combined with the FIA SCC for a 1000km race.

Will we ever again see a VW Golf racing door handle to monocoque with an Audi R8, a pair of Dome S101s, Pescarolo Courage, DBA, Lola B2K/10B or the like? Almost certainly not. But the Golf fun was snuffed out prematurely when SRO outlawed front wheel drive cars from the Championship.

The dustcovers were pulled over the Golf, the boys not able to contemplate parting with their baby, and a pair of seasons of Porsche GTC class racing filled the gap: they went head to head with one of the strongest class showings the Championship has seen in recent years and gave a very good account of themselves.

The Porsche was then sold at the end of the 2005 season, with a new challenge appearing on the horizon. James Tucker’s Britcar package was looking to expand with the new V8 Challenge and the Wood Scott duo went looking for an appropriate weapon of choice. The fast, powerful and wieldy V8 Stars were touted when new, in 2001, as an alternative to the then new and untried DTM cars.

The series though suffered under the attack of the manufacturer based DTM. Bad news for the V8 Star organisers, but good news for national class racers across the continent. With big V8 power on tap and a number of different production based body styles the cars looked the ideal tool for the new series and Stuart and Steve soon sourced a Jaguar S-Type bodied car as their new steed.

The ex-Ellen Lohr mount was always a front-runner this season, with three podium finishes from four starts, but the series suffered growing pains. Uncertainty and disappointment rather took the sheen off the racing experience and the spark Stuart was looking for would be more likely found elsewhere.

With regret then the Jaguar too is up for sale. Both cars have been beautifully presented throughout their time with WSR and both present the opportunity for their new owners to get aboard a potential race winner.
