FIA-GT Media Day Monza
Apex Motorsport headed to Monza last Wednesday, 21st February, for the official GT3 test and the track debut of the Jaguar XKR GT3.
Most of last years teams were present and this would be the first time any of the opposition would get a look at the stunning Jaguar.
Andy Wallace was given the task to shake down the car and unfortunately Thursday's track time had to give best to a mysterious electrical problem that prevented the car from starting. The good news was that before the end of the day the sound of the V8 supercharged engine could be heard in the garage.
Friday the Jaguar made it's delayed debut on the track having only turned a wheel on the Thursday for an official photo shoot. The idea was just to run a few laps to test fluid levels and to get some heat into the gearbox and engine. On the second lap there was a minor problem with the gear selector but the team went to work and fixed it without the loss of too much time.
A further run detected some movement with one of the front uprights and it was decided to halt the test. The limited track time proved very positive and Andy Wallace was very complimentary of the cars handling and balance.
Next Friday at Snetterton the car should have more time on the track and with the Monza issues now sorted should again prove very positive for the team.
