SCOTT PLANS TOUR RUN FOR CHEVROLET

Stuart Scott will honour the memory of the late Richard Lloyd when he contests this year's Tour Britannia in September, competing at the wheel of the Chevrolet Camaro that Lloyd drove on the 2007 event when partnered by the car's owner Alan Rivers.

Scott (46) says that childhood memories of Lloyd racing a similar Camaro over 35 years ago encouraged him to buy the car and tackle the three-day event in Lloyd's honour.

Lloyd and David Leslie were killed in an aircraft accident in March 2008 and Scott was heavily involved in the Jaguar GT3 project being run by Lloyd's Apex Motorsport squad at the time.

"As a young kid in the early 1970s, the only way my dad could get me to go and watch racing was to see Richard Lloyd and his Camaro," said Cambridge-based Scott, boss of Cambridge Business Travel.

"After the aircraft accident a lot of his cars were sold, but the Camaro didn't go into the auction and Alan used it on Tour Britannia last year. Alan then decided to sell the Camaro and all the proceeds went to Richard's family. We entered it in the David Leslie Memorial Race at the Silverstone Classic as a tribute, as obviously there is a strong connection between David and Richard."

Now comes Scott's first foray into classic race and rally tours. "I've entered the car for Tour Britannia this year and Steve Wood (40) is going to co-drive. Steve and I have shared cars in a lot of GT races over the last six years but never with both of us in the car at the same time," said Scott. "I've not done Tour Britannia before and we are definitely looking forward to it as have heard so many good things about it. This will be in memory of Richard."
